The British government, the British Royal Society and the International Vaccine Institute are holding the International Workshop on Vaccines for Influenza today and tomorrow at the institute, which is based in Korea. Developments in research in the field, promotion of networks between field researchers, as well as the development of proposals for cooperative projects dealing with pandemic vaccines will be the main topics of discussion. Ideas about controlling the disease, as well as efforts to improve global preparations for new outbreaks will also be talked about, along with the development of a vaccine for avian flu. Sir John Skehel, former director of the MRC National Institute for Medical Research, is leading the workshop along with Baik Lin-seoung, a biotechnology professor at Yonsei University. The director general of the International Vaccine Institute, Dr. John Clemens, will be the keynote speaker.
