Experts on military defense flocked to Seoul last week to take part in a conference on weapons proliferation. The conference, titled “Reducing the Threat of WMD Proliferation through the Global Partnership Program,” was organized by the Canadian Embassy and the Institute of Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University. “WMD” stands for weapons of mass destruction. The Global Partnership refers to a 10-year initiative created in 2002 to address terrorist groups’ use of WMD on civilians. Conference attendees included government officials and academics from Canada, the United States and Korea. Chun Young-woo, the special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs at the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, delivered the keynote address. The one-day conference was Feb. 1 at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, located in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. For more information, see http://ifes.kyungnam.ac.kr or call (02)-3700-0700.
