Aug. 18: Korea Travel Club plans to trek along the creek in Achimgari, a remote region shrouded in the deep, primeval woods of Gangwon. Some trails have even become overgrown after not being used for years, so the team may have to walk through the creek. Rare and endangered species such as freshwater salmon, otters, weasels and flying squirrels are some wildlife visitors may encounter. The team will have lunch and swim in the creek. In the past, Achimgari was used as a refuge during wartime. Nowadays, it is uninhabited and only abandoned schools and houses remain. The trip costs 35,000 won. Bring your own lunch. The bus leaves from Hongik University Station, line No. 2, exit 1 and Express Bus Terminal Station, line No. 3, exit 7 or 8, at 7 and 7:30 a.m., respectively. The bus returns on Sunday to Express Bus Terminal Station at 8:30 p.m. and Hongik University Station at 9:00 p.m.
