Sunday: RASKB is organizing a one-day trip to Mount Deogyu National Park and Mount Mai for intrepid hikers. The group will take a three-hour drive down to Muju County, one of the most mountainous areas in North Jeolla. On arrival, there will be a two-hour hike to Baekyeon Temple, which is located in the Mount Deogyu National Park. The temple is famous for its white lotus flowers, which blossom around this time of year. After lunch, the group will visit Mount Mai. The mountain is popular among children because it is not excessively high and because its shape resembles a horse’s ear. The name of the mountain, “Mai,” literally means horse’s ear. There are two peaks on the mountain, which are said to represent the frozen figures of a mountain spirit couple ascending to heaven. Afterward, there will be another short hike up to Pagoda Temple. The tour costs 39,500 won ($42) for members and 47,400 won for nonmembers. The bus leaves at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday from Yongsan Post Office, near Sinyongsan station, line No. 4, exit 1, and returns around 9 p.m.
