Saturday: The Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch is planning a walking tour of Bukcheon with Professor David Mason as guide. Bukcheon originally meant “north village” and is located on the northern side of central Seoul.
Nowadays many tourists flock to Bukcheon to see the fine examples of hanok, traditional Korean houses. The tour will start from the new Bukcheon Cultural Center in a remodeled hanok, where the group will be briefly educated about the history of Bukcheon with video clips and maps.
The group will visit the Seoul Guest House where visitors can experience the traditional lifestyle of the Joseon Dynasty era. Then the group will visit Chungang High School and the teahouse inside the private Gahoe Museum to see historical sites and the transformation of an old house into a new hanok.
The tour costs 16,000 won. The group will meet at exit 3 of Anguk Station, line No. 3 at 9:30 a.m. The tour will finish around 1 p.m.
