Jan. 16: Two North Korean films with be screened at an Itaewon restaurant together with a Thai dinner.

The first film, “Pyongyang Crescendo” follows German conductor Alexander Liebreich, the first European conductor allowed to teach students in North Korea. In May 2005, he was given 10 days to teach a group of students how to conduct music they had never heard before. The film focuses on two of his students as they struggle to master their pieces. Even when the pressure rose, with students failing in rehearsals, the filmmakers were able to shoot freely - a rare opportunity in a country where imperfection is hidden from outsiders.

The second film, “Game of Their Lives” revisits the North Korean national football team that created one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. After their amazing performance in Europe, they went back to North Korea and seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth, while rumors ran rampant that they were imprisoned on their return. The film is their story firsthand.

The event will be held in Itaewon from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. and costs 70,000 won, which includes a Thai dinner and two drinks. Reservations must be paid in advance and no walk-ins will be accepted. Upon payment, you will be notified of the restaurant’s location.
