Saturday: The Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch is holding a hiking tour to Jeonju, North Jeolla Province.

Jeonju is the city where the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) was founded. Our tour will begin with a traditional lunch. Following a short bus ride along the Jeonju River, the tour will begin exploring the old city and its Joseon Dynasty sights, each rich in history.

Highlights include Hanbykeokdang, a riverside pavilion built in 1400; the Jeonju Confucian School, founded in the 1300s, and rebuilt at its present location in 1603; Gyeonggijeon (1410), where the portrait of the first Joseon king is enshrined; Pungnammun (the South Gate), the remaining gate of the city rebuilt following a fire in 1794,; and the Gaek Temple, built in 1471 as a royal guesthouse and venue for royal ceremonies.

The tour leaves from Yongsan Post Office at 8:00 a.m. and will return at 8:30 p.m.

It costs won 48,000 won for members and 57,600 won for nonmembers.
